Submarine Cable Internet is live at SISCC

SISCC made their first internet connection over the Coral Sea Cable System from their offices at Lengakiki Ridge today. At 9am on 5th December the first of their IP Transit links was completed and testing commenced with their Telstra IP connection. As expected the performance was stunning!

CEO Keir Preedy explains “This screenshot of a typical speedtest shows 45ms ping time to Sydney which is around 10% of the ping time the best satellite services available today can manage. The speed of around 200 Mbps was only limited by the office wifi-router and the simultaneous workload we were giving it at the time! The team and I are very excited by this performance and look forward to delivering this very low latency for many of the critical applications in use in the Solomon Islands like Google, You Tube and Facebook once we have completed the access to Sydney Internet Peering Exchanges. Once this is done SISCC will be inviting the Solomon Islands operators to connect and test with us prior to our commercial launch of services in February 2020. We hope in this way that the public will be able to get to experience cable speed earlier too”

SISCC will be adding the routes to two Internet Peering Exchanges in Sydney to complete their full IP Transit solution by the 12th December.
