Solomon Submarine Cable Contracts suppliers for Construction

Solomon Submarine Cable (SSC) is pleased to announce the completion of their tender processes and the award of construction contracts by early August 2018.

Under the terms of their Landing Party Agreement signed with the Commonwealth of Australia on 13th June 2018, Solomon Submarine Cable will construct Landing Party Infrastructure at each of its landing points in Honiara, Auki, Noro and Taro. This infrastructure comprises forward cable ducts from below the low water mark to feed in the submarine cable, beach manholes to secure the submarine cable, land duct routes to take the fibre optic, power and earthing to SSC’s Landing Station sites and the Cable Landing Stations buildings themselves.

Following separate tenders, SSC selected local Solomon Islands companies for civil works. Fletcher Kwaimani were contracted as the Civil Works contractor in mid July and South Pacific Designs Ltd were contracted as the Clerk of Works at the end of July.

SSC chose to implement specialised pre-fabricated Cable Landing Station buildings to ensure the best quality technical and operational performance and to meet the project’s aggressive deployment timeframe. X-Site Modular from the USA were contracted to provide the buildings at the beginning of August.

The project is making good progress towards implementation of both the International Coral Sea Cable System and the Solomon Islands Domestic Network by the end of 2019.
