Solomon Submarine Cable Trials Commence

Solomon Submarine Cable (SSC) is very pleased to announce that all three largest licensed retail operators in the Solomon Islands are now connected to the International Coral Sea Cable System for customer trials which will last until the end of January 2020.

From now until the end of the trial period at the end of January 2020 they will be helping SSC exercise the operation of the network whilst evaluating the potential of the new cable system to their businesses.  It is likely during this trial that their customers will get to experience the high quality, low latency internet service that the system provides.

SSC will soon be extending the trial to the Solomon Islands Domestic Network with some of the Operators.  In this way SSC will test the Domestic Network thoroughly and the operators extend the customer experience opportunity to the people of these Provinces.

At the end of the trial period, on 1st of February 2020, provided an operating license has been issued by TCSI, SSC will open for commercial service. Operators who have signed on for the commercial service before the end of the trial period will then move seamlessly from the trial to the bandwidth that they will have ordered to suit their operational needs and aspirations.

CEO, Keir Preedy, stated “ The whole team are proud and very excited to have reached this important milestone before Christmas.  In the last two weeks we have been working flat out to complete the installation of our remaining systems and complete the high quality internet services connections in Sydney.  During these weeks the SSC team have demonstrated the availability of high speed low latency internet services in Honiara, Auki, Noro and Taro. Now we have successfully provisioned three major customers onto the network in Honiara for trials.  “

He goes on to explain “ During the trial period SSC are testing out all the systems and cannot guarantee continuous service as we may have to make adjustments.  There is also a planned outage of up to 5 days duration during late January to rectify what is known as a shunt fault in the domestic cable between Noro and Honiara that will affect Taro and Noro services.”, he added, “Solomon Submarine Cable has now moved to a fully mode of operation.  We shall be working over the holiday period to monitor the system and measure it’s performance from both our Network Operations Centre in Honiara, our networking supplier, Netcraft’s, Operations Centre in Adelaide and our  major outsource partner, Telstra’s, Global Operations Centre in Melbourne.
